Long Form Television


I watched as much as I could from the Detectorists, the recommended comedic series from England.
Detectorists is a TV-series that started fairly recently in 2014 until present. It follows the lives of two individuals that spend most of their day metal detecting tracks and open fields to one day find the treasure that will change their life entirely. If they are not metal detecting, they are in their metal detecting club, the pub/bar or talking to their wives about metal detecting.

This TV-series might be one of the most comedic things I've ever watched. It is so dry, but yet you want to keep watching to see what they do next. Both main characters Andy and Lance, seem to have very unique personalities, but they are as stupid as each other. It looks like they're just bouncing their stupidity off each other. We gain empathy for the characters a little since they're so dedicated to the sport, yet do not find much at all. Or they think they do, but it turns out they haven't. It just is so strange, an entire TV-show about metal detecting... yet it is so entertaining. There are a few side stories within the TV-show where we kind of see their lives, especially from Andy and his girlfriend, Becky. Which is pretty funny because she's a teacher, and she settles for him with being a metal detecting fanatic. Their fights and talks are mostly also based on the metal detecting, or about a girl at the metal detecting club ... and I am not sure how she keeps up with him. The story has limited characters, it is not a very big tv-series, with a low limited budget I believe, since all they need is a few rooms, a field, and a few metal detectors. The introduction of the two other metal detectorists, the main one called Art, gives the show a little bit of spiciness. As Art seems like a smarter guy, but actually is as stupid as them all. People keep watching for the entertainment, as dry as it may be.

Media

Technology is a great development in today's world, it brings so many positive things to this world. We find information on the various media platforms that we can access for free anywhere, anytime we want. Information is just part of it, communication, entertainment are other aspects that are easier to access. But with these advantages, come its disadvantages.  I personally believe media is a very dangerous thing. It can be affected by a lot of things, stories that are not as interesting to the majority audience won't be shown. So we would not know they are happening since we trust the media being the only source of information. It can also be very affected by the money involved. Cosmopolis

I liked Cosmopolis in a weird way... Cosmopolis takes place in the year 2000, in a single day. It follows Eric Packer, a very privileged founder of a big financial company. The story is very direct and sad. I don't think the author saw the limousine as necessarily a car or vehicle, but more a path or journey of destruction. There must have been a reason why he wanted that haircut at the other side of town. Maybe he wanted to live, do something else than what he does every single day of his life. Maybe because he was so good at predicting the economy at work, he actually knew he was losing money along the way and knew what he was getting himself into from his first words.
